Sri Swami Omkarananda was born in a traditional Vedic family. He learned the Vedas at a very early age. In his early twenties, greatly inspired by the teachings of Sri Swami Vivekananda, he joined Ramakrishna Tapovanam at Tirupparaithurai and was given Sannyasa Diksha by Sri Swami Chidbhavananda Maharaj on May 4, 1985, and was named as Sri Swami Omkarananda. Between 1985 and 1987, Sri Swamiji toured all over Tamil Nadu and conducted Antaryogams and classes on spoken Sanskrit. His quest for knowledge of Vedanta led him to Sri Swami Paramarthananda, a disciple of Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati, under whose guidance he studied Vedanta from 1987 to 1994. On completion of his studies, he founded Sri Swami Chidbhavananda Ashramam on the banks of the river Surabhi Saraswathi or Mullaiyaru river at Theni and established the Vedanta Sasthra Prachara Trust to manage the Ashram. Today, Sri Swamiji is an outstanding teacher of Vedanta, known for his eloquence in Tamil and Sanskrit. His ability to present even the most intricate topics of Vedanta in an easily understandable manner has won him a large following among grassroots rural communities.Recognizing his erudition, various organizations in India and abroad regularly arrange his discourse programmes.
